During their Informal Meeting in Vienna, Research Ministers have exchanged views on the legislative package for Horizon Europe, the ninth EU Research Framework Programme. From a first assessment of the package, the Presidency will try to develop agreed guidelines for the negotiations in the Research Working Group.

Research and innovation are key opportunities to foster pan-European collaboration, advancing Europe’s excellence in science to tackle the world’s major challenges, especially in health and social care.

In a time of uncertain international leadership, the ENRF calls on European policy-makers to step up and deliver the research investment efficiently, through better policy and improved coordination. In particular, it is crucial to mainstream the dimensions of sustainable development and neglected societal challenges throughout all the future Horizon Europe, and to involve the health research community to improve the lives of European citizens.
